The accident

July 17th What started out as a normal day...it was hot so we went and got sno cones, went and hit some range balls at the golf course and then Brayden wanted to go riding out at the track. We loaded up the bike and left. Madi loves to watch everyone ride so we just sit in the truck and try to find daddy as he passes us. We saw Brayden go by and then we started pointing at different colors on other peoples shirts, about 5 min later a bike pulls up to my window and says "your guy is down" so I jump out and start walking over and he comes back and tells me to drive the pickup over so we can load his bike. I ask him if it's bad (thinking it's his ankles because he seems to hurt those a lot) the guy says "well he isn't moving and I think the ambulance is on their way" NOT what I wanted to hear!! About 10 guys were around him when I got there, he was laying down and pretty beat up. He wasn't completly knocked out but was definetly confused. He knew me and Madi but couldn't figure out what day/month it was and he wanted to know when school started. He DID NOT want the ambulance to come...he thought we should just throw him in the pickup and he would be fine (not thinking the clearest) Me and Madi got back in the pickup and started following the ambulance...this is when I started calling family. I was doing so good at the track but as soon as I started telling the story the ambulance lights turned on and it was becoming real life and I lost it for a second. All of our parents were ready to jump in their cars and head over but because I didn't know much I had them wait until morning! 

I got to the hospital and they were doing all the x-rays and cat scans so I couldn't go and see him. Meredith and Avy were there to help with Madi. I seriously couldn't have done it without there help! They took Madi for her first sleepover and I stayed with Brayden. The dr confirmed that he had broken his right femur, three left ribs,and his left collar bone. He hit his head pretty hard so he had a swollen jaw too. He got to eat ice chips all night with his wonderful morphine drip and was preparing for surgery on his leg in the morning.

Everything went well in surgery he just had a hard time waking up so he was pretty out of it for the rest of the day. During the surgery they took an X-ray of his shoulder and realized that it was separated and they needed to look at that closer later. The next day physical therapy was there and he had to get up and walk. It was so hard to see him in so much pain and because of the broken ribs he wasn't breathing deep and he would get light headed very easy. After a long three days in the hospital we got to go home! The car ride home was pretty hard on Brayden. You don't realize how many bumps you go over until you have someone hurt in the car. 

Madi was a little afraid of dad in the hospital so it was big that she started to like him again at home:)

The next few days consisted of naps, pain pills, and the most bland food I could make for him:) I would make him do his little leg kids and stretches but other than that he didn't leave the recliner! He was doing so much better and then we had a follow up with our dr and they took an X-ray of his leg and shoulder...remember how it was separated well now it needed surgery too!! You can tell how excited we were about that and Brayden even tried to not have it done but after a lot of thought and questions we decided to have it done. Now the question comes how do you walk with a broken leg and a shoulder you can't use? Well they make you stay a night in the hospital and have physical therapy teach you..so another night in the hospital again! Madi got to sleep over with us and she did really good...although she now prefers "tiny ice" in a cup and she loved the cane as her crutch because "my hurt leg" haha

This will come out in 3-4 months!

After some hard days and sleepless nights for Brayden, he is doing so much better! Definetly not how we wanted to spend the last few weeks of summer but we are hanging in there!
